Turkmenistan Expands Its Digital Infrastructure
By 2028, Turkmenistan will increase the number of its international fibre-optic lines from eight to eleven as part of the State Programme for Digital Transformation for 2026–2028. The Ministry of Communications is implementing several strategic projects aimed at strengthening international connectivity and expanding the country’s transit potential.
One of the key initiatives is the construction of the cross-border fibre-optic line “Arkadagyň Ak ýoly bilen Serhetabat – Hyrat,” which is expected to increase transit traffic volumes and expand access to South Asian markets, including India. In parallel, a submarine fibre-optic cable project across the Caspian Sea is being implemented jointly with Azerbaijan, involving Türkmentelekom and Azertelekom. Construction is also underway on terrestrial routes along the Etrek–Incheburun and Bekdash–Temirbaba corridors.
These projects are creating attractive opportunities for domestic and foreign investors, fostering economic growth, the development of high-tech industries, and reinforcing Turkmenistan’s role as a key digital and investment hub in the region.
